This August 14 ~16, I got a cheap flight ticket and went back to Taiwan. Though it was not my first time I stayed in a hotel when I came back.
This time I also stayed in Hsin-Chu Royal hotel which was indeed awesome. Hsin-Chu is known as the "Windy city" and is in the center of Taiwan's Silicon Valley. It reminded me of my last day in TSMC on Aug. 15th 2009, some pictures of my office room (669, 6 floor 69) were taken. I shared offices with three technical managers. Look at the chair, table, and cup, it takes me down memory lane.
This trip was quite interesting and I ran into some old colleagues. I met a former Samsung colleague on the airplane and a former TSMC colleague on the street. We had good talk and are going to keep in touch.
The weather in Hsinchu is a little cooler than Seoul, around 28~30°C. Taipei is around 30°C. Downtown Hsinchu is centered around Cheng Huang Temple, which is surrounded by many shopping malls. I took the #1 bus down to the temple after having a really delicious breakfast. I also went clothes shopping and found my favorite clothing stores were still there. I talked to some storekeepers and they still remember me!
I went back to the hotel and unpacked my clothes, after which I headed for Taipei station and Taipei 101. Suddenly, the rain was pouring, but it didn't stop me. I took a 1.5-hour bus trip to Taipei starting from Tseng-Hwa University. The final stop was Taipei station shopping mall. I noticed that store was already selling mooncakes for the Moon/Mid-Autumn Festival (8.15 on the Lunar calendar). I ate some mooncakes and bought two boxes of them. The clothes in the shopping mall were very stylish and it was difficult to choose which ones I wanted, but it was still fantastic!
Taipei 101 is very close to my parents' house. Though my father is still a university professor in Taiwan, both my parents are having their summer vacation. I go to Taipei 101 almost every time I come back home, because I enjoy the modern architecture and seeing the hustle and bustle in the city.
Taiwan is an isolated yet enchanting island, and Taiwanese people are so nice, friendly and humble. Indeed, people work so hard to build this IT island! I'm not so sure when I will return. Since I like to meet people and talk to people, I am going to visit Malaysia, Singapore and Montreal in Canada this September and October. I also have friends there! LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!
